Counter Economics

This blog is written and maintained by Shaun Snapp. I decided to start this blog because of what I found to be inaccurate information communicated by media outlets regarding finance and economics. In financial reporting, up is down and down is up. The only consistent principle that I can see followed is what is good for concentrated power.

My Background

I am an technology consultant and I do not work in finance. I have had a number of finance and economics courses in my undergraduate and graduate training. Unfortunately most undergraduate and graduate training in finance and economics is thoroughly propagandized, and my courses were no exception. And actually, this blog is primarily focused on contradicting the garbage economics and finance that comes out of universities and like Wharton and The University of Chicago, as well as from Goldman Sachs. None of these outlets predicted the financial crisis (mostly because they were too busy getting wealthy off of it). However, some did see it coming and wrote about it.

My actual training in the reality of finance and economics comes from observation and from online gurus like Dean Baker and the CEPR, Michael Hudson, Noam Chomsky (a non-economist more predictive than most economists), Naomi Klein, The Nation, Harper’s and dollarsandsense.org

I write on topics that newspapers and periodicals can not write on, because they would be censored by advertizers and editors. I also write on topics that academic economists can not address because they would be pressured by heads of department for interfering with fundraising intitiatives at the university.
